Our vision
At Tropicare we find it important to make every traveler a carefree traveler with our Care Plus® products. However, our social commitment goes a step further. We are working towards a malaria -free world by 2030 . Such an ambitious vision fits us well. Since 1992, our organization is committed with head and heart to the concept of travel and health . Thanks to a proven track record and a continuous stream of product innovations , our customers ( in 25 countries ) , suppliers and media help us to achieve our goal. With concrete short , medium and long term goals , we work in a straight line to our spot on the horizon , the so called BHAG .

Repel, fight and lure mosquitoes
We focus on sharing knowledge and product development to achieve a malaria-free world in 2030 . We continuously invest in great solutions to repel, fight and lure mosquitos.

about Malaria

  • serious infectious disease caused by the bite of an infected mosquito
  • without treatment, Malaria Tropica (the most dangerous form) can have fatal consequences within a few weeks
  • every 60 seconds a child dies of malaria
  • 1,000,000 annual malaria deaths
  • occurs in (sub) tropical areas, however tourism, transport and global trade bring tropical mosquito species to Europe
  • in some areas the parasite has developed resistance to malaria medicines / drugs
  • occurs in 109 countries
  • no vaccine available

How to repel mosquitoes
Repelling mosquitoes is mostly a matter of common sense. With some simple tips , you are already on your way . Have a critical look at your environment before you use a bug spray. Flooded planters and clogged gutters are the ideal habitat for mosquitoes . Our advice is free, easy and extremely effective: invert and unclog!
The malaria mosquito sticks especially after sunset . Place screens in front of your windows and doors or close them after sunset to ensure a mosquito-free ( bed) room . When you are travelling, you can improvise a screen easily with our multi-functional Bug Sheet . A well- functioning air conditioning also helps to keep mosquitos away. In addition, we advise you to cover your body as much as possible with clothing : long pants , long sleeves , socks and closed shoes . Our clothing is both UV and mosquito repellent , without the use of impregnation. Such a natural protection benefits the environment and the wearer , whose skin is in direct contact with the fabric. Our innovative non-impregnated clothing was in 1997 the first on the market

How to fight mosquitos
Sleeping under an impregnated mosquito net guarantees a safe and relaxing night rest . In 1997 our first nets came on the market . Minimum impregnation offers optimum protection against ( malaria ) mosquitoes , lice , bedbugs and fleas . Both technology and the needs of travelers is continuously changing . That's why we introduce a range of lightweight mosquito nets with long lasting impregnation this year. All nets are in accordance with the applicable regulations for biocides in the European Union and beyond , and with WHO guidelines . Thanks to the material -saving four-sided diamond mesh , our lightweight range is up to 50 % lighter than standard products . Only then apply a repellent containing DEET on exposed skin . Our Care Plus Anti - Insect DEET 50 % , in the range since 1994 , offers up to 10 hours of protection against ( malaria ) mosquitoes . Alternatively, we offer Natural , without Deet and based on natural lemon - eucalyptus extracts. Natural, 30 % Citriodiol ® , offers up to 6 hours of protection .

How to lure mosquitoes
Tropicare supports groundbreaking scientific research, conducted by the Laboratory of Wageningen University. The purpose is to find a solution to keep the ( malaria ) mosquito away from humans. A research group led by Professor Takken developed substances to which mosquitoes are attracted . These substances are used to lure and catch mosquito populations in African villages which greatly reduces the risk of a mosquito bite and makes malaria disappear. We donated 28 mosquito traps , called MMX Counter Flow mosquito traps in 2012 . The traps are important to gather information about malaria mosquitoes around the house. Based on the results new control techniques can be started. On the Kenyan Rusinga Island field research takes place . Last year Arnoud Aalbersberg , founder and CEO of Tropicare , visited the project . The results of the field study are promising . The mosquito traps lower the mosquito population in the huts. The battery and the solar panel of the mosquito trap offer also another advantage. They provide power for lighting and a charging capability for mobile phones (everyone has one ! ) . To be able to provide a solution for travelers to malaria - risk areas , we are interested to investigate the possibilities of a portable mosquito trap. This could lead to another Care Plus innovation for and brings us another step closer to a malaria -free world in 2030 !
